The Huron Women’s Swim/Dive team knocked out two dual wins at the Ratatorium in one evening last Thursday with victories over Adrian, (146-39) and Lincoln (144-36).
With many swimmers swimming “off” events, there were some surprise victories for the Rats. Sophomore Lydia Hargett took the 200 Free (2:15.52), with sophomore Ayaka Sakamoto (2:20.96) in 2nd, and junior Ella Szmansky (2:26.28) in 4th and sophomores Felicia Sang (2:32.73), Cali Streeter (2:37.05) and Alli Sutton (3:06.05) earned 1st, 2nd and 4th points in the 200 IM.
Lincoln swimmer Emma Casteel (26.75) won the 50 free, with Huron sophomore Kathryn Hemmila (26.98) and junior Clara Bowman (28.94) in 2nd and 3rd, and freshman Isabella Whelan (30.35) in 5th.
Junior Annaliese Streeter won the 100 Fly (1:03.65) and the 100 Back (1:00.61), taking home her D1 cut in that event. Sophomores Zannah Baker (1:09.73) and Ezgi Poyraz took 2nd and 3rd in the fly, and Poyraz (1:13.99) and C.Streeter (1:14.23), 2nd and 3rd in the back. Sang won the 100 Free (1:02.44) with sophomore Emma Kaipainen in 2nd (1:03.44) and senior/captain Faith Baker (1:08.68) in 4th, and senior/captain Anna Leone won the 500 (5:44.90) with junior Kiana Hemati taking 5th (7:30.16), and Sutton scoring points with her 6th place finish (7:30.16).
Finally, Z. Baker (1:16.22) touched 1st in the 100 Breast, followed in order by Sakamoto (1:17.31), Hemmila (1:20.06), and senior/captain Kristina Holcombe (1:26.56) in a non-scoring 4th.
Junior Annie Costello continued to dazzle with two more dual meet dive victories, scoring 267.65 points. Senior Sami Ruud was 3rd (228.45), just behind Adrian’s Annabelle Hurley (231.65). Junior Julie Park was 4th (221.65), freshman Hannah Margolis, non-scoring 5th (190.40), sophomore Maggie Thomas, 6th (169.15) and senior Anna Boerst, diving in exhibition, 7th (168.85).
Huron will host Skyline for a cross-town meet that is sure to be thrilling on Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Ratatorium.
