It’s only September but the Skyline field hockey team seems to be playing with a sense of purpose. They have championship aspirations, but first things first – the regular season.
The Eagles have flown off to a 5-1 start on the young season with the only loss coming to rival Pioneer. On Thursday, Skyline took care of another city rival with a dominating 6-0 win over host Huron. Skyline was in control early and often with a nice mix of skill and determination.
“The keys to our success this year is having positive leadership from our experienced players and combining a great blend of hard work and competitiveness with team comradely,” said Skyline Coach Nicky Barrett.
Sophomore Cameron Wiseman had three goals to lead the Skyline attack against the River Rats. Senior Jessica Courtright, who is heading to Ohio State next year, had two goals and two assists. Her younger sister, Corinne, a sophomore, had a goal and an assist.
Sophomore Madeline Ellies and junior Morgan Nalepa had assists in the win.
Maddie Willicker and Maddison Wade combined for the shutout.
