The Father Gabriel Richard girls’ basketball team ran its record to 4-0 on the season with a 59-36 win Wednesday night over Milan.
The Fighting Irish came out fighting. They took an 11-6 lead in the first quarter and then outscored the Big Reds 18-9 in the second quarter which added up to a 29-15 halftime lead.
FGR outscored Milan 18-10 in the third quarter and 12-11 in the final period.
“Our objective was to take away their three-point shooters and we held them without a three-point make,” said FGR Coach Tim Cain. “We turned the ball over a few times against their press but we were also able to score a lot of easy baskets when we were in the right place and moving the ball. Overall, it was a strong team performance.”
Senior Rileigh Garbarz led FGR with 16 points. Mary Kate McCauliffe had 12 points and Izzie Lashaway scored nine in the victory.
