Gutman Gallery to reopen July 8th featuring Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair Artistsy 8th

ANN ARBOR – In mid-February, The Guild of Artists & Artisans (The Guild), most well known for producing the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, launched the Gutman Gallery, a fine art gallery and shop located at 118 N 4th Ave. in Downtown Ann Arbor. Named after Vic Gutman, the founding director of The Guild, Gutman Gallery was developed to align with The Guild’s mission to provide its members with marketing opportunities, which serve as educational, cultural and entertaining opportunities for the community. Due to COVID-19, The Guild closed Gutman Gallery in early March and has since canceled many of their annual fine art fairs, including the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair.

In order to continue to serve The Guild’s artist members and connect them with art lovers, The Guild went virtual with online shopping, virtual art fairs, and other online art programming. Gallery Manager, Elizabeth Wallce says, “Although The Guild has embraced these new ways of connecting with our artists and community, we are very excited to announce that we will re-open the Gutman Gallery on Wednesday, July 8!” In lieu of the cancellation of the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair, The Gutman Gallery’s artist shop will focus on Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair artists and feature work from 38 of the jury selected 2020 artists!

The gallery will be open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 am – 4 pm. The Guild takes the safety of our customers and employees seriously and will reopen The Gutman Gallery in accordance with all state regulations. Surfaces will be wiped down regularly, touchless payments will be an option for all transactions, and masks will be required to be worn by employees and patrons while in the shop (masks will be available to patrons who do not have their own). Hand sanitizer, provided by Gutman Gallery partner, Mammoth Distilling will be accessible at the entrance/exit, and throughout the gallery. Not quite ready to shop in-store yet? Shoppers can shop online at and schedule curbside pick-up or they can set up an appointment to shop outside of regular hours by emailing Elizabeth at

Gutman Gallery is an inclusive fine art space open to all regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion, racial group, etc.  Not only is the gallery home to rotating art exhibitions and a gallery shop, but it also provides a creative space for the community to come together for workshops and events, both in-person and online.  On Wednesday, July 15 at 6:00 pm, you can join fellow artists and art-lovers for a Virtual Art Class where you will learn how to make polymer clay jewelry from artist Kimberly Arden. Arden will teach you the tips and tricks she’s learned along the way, as well as step-by-step instructions for how you can make your own unique polymer clay jewelry. Tickets to this virtual class via Zoom are $15 and can be purchased here: Tickets go on sale Monday, July 6.

Recent renovations to the space were made possible with support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and National Endowment for the Arts. Other Gutman Gallery partners include: Vic Gutman & Associates, Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority, and Art Recovery-Technologies.
